After School Care Glasgow

  A bit about BOSCA
BOSCA was founded in 1991 by a group of parents to provide after school care for their children. It is still voluntary managed by parents who make up the Bosca Board of Directors. Bosca has a paid staff of 18 and often has secondary school pupils volunteering for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Bosca is a non-profit making organisation that became a company limited by guarantee in 2012. Currently Bosca provides after-school care for a total of 210 pupils who attend Broomhill Primary School in Glasgow. The daily attendance is up to 120 children.

Bosca provides an after school session from 3-6 pm in Broomhill Primary School. Children can choose to play indoors or out and can take part in free play or structured activities.

The Bosca Store is where the children can choose toys and resources and can take them to various areas on the premises such as the Hall, Outside or Room 7. The staff encourage the children in art, crafts, drama, music and sports and provide the toys, enthusiasm and equipment to stimulate their imagination and create their own games.

The BOSCA staff have a wide range of experiences and are committed to their continual professional development to upgrade their skills. To offer an even wider curriculum we have invited experts to come in and teach the children. This has included team combat, drama, street dance and Spanish. Our staff and families have introduced the children to opera, school life in Denmark, safari in Africa and scuba diving among other things. We provide the children the opportunity to participate in our Bosca Panto this can involve performing, set design, prop making or helping on the night with tickets and set up.

In addition to the above Bosca also provides a morning session in Broomhill Parish Church, between the hours of 8-9am for registered children attending Broomhill Primary School.

During in-service days, mid-term, Spring, Summer and October holidays Bosca provides a Playscheme packed with activities and outings. The Bosca Playscheme takes place in Broomhill Primary School between the hours 8.30- 5.45 pm. We have identified trips and outings that are big hits with the children and visit these regularly. We are always open to suggestions on places you may have visited as a family that you think would be suitable. Please pass these on to us as our staff members take time out to visit and assess all destinations, prior to them being added to our programme.

Bosca is inspected by the care inspectorate and is registered for up to 120 children a day. Our inspection report can be accessed online at www.careinspectorate.com. We are also a member of the Scottish Out of School Care Network and are currently working with service users and our staff to gain our Achieving Quality Scotland Award. You can find out more about the quality assurance scheme on SOSCN’s website www.soscn.org/quality_assurance

The Bosca management team and board have retained the gold status good practice award from 2016 for their investment in young people. Awarded and recognised by www.thisisremarkable.com

Bosca encourages contributions from parents and children and will be open and transparent in its activities. Bosca will take into account local, national and legal guidance. We aim to have fun while offering challenge, excitement and new experiences.
