Bosca News
In partnership with the Scottish Out of School Care Network, Bosca is able to offer Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths opportunities to the children. We have use of two raspberry pi computers and have invested in a laptop, an additional monitor and two keyboards. Stewart has completed a training course in how to use the resources with the children and we hope to send another staff member on the course next term. STEM sessions will run most days in the Bosca room (Room 7) permission forms are available please discuss with your child if this is something they would be interested in taking part in.
Our Spring Programme is available to view at the desk the children and staff worked together to plan each day. Please note that the weather may mean we need to change what we are doing at the last minute.
At the moment Glasgow City Council are allowing Bosca to use the modular building on the annexe site “School Huts; previously used by Primary 4” as office space whilst a decision is made as to what will happen with the land. If you would like to arrange to speak to myself before 3pm the School Huts can be used. We have also used the space as a training venue for the staff as this is something we were previously unable to do in the Bungalow as there were no toilets.
Please update you and your child’s personal information by requesting your registration form. It is important that we have current telephone numbers, we normally ask for your details to be updated at the end of January however this was delayed with the move.

Waiting List
We are currently experiencing an exceptionally large list of children awaiting places at Bosca. This list includes those who currently attend and those who have had their name on the waiting list for a number of years who are due to start Primary 1 in August 2018. If your child will reduce their attendance for the next term please speak to me asap.
Bosca Move
Thank you to those who were able to complete our questionnaires, this helps us understand what you and your family think of the new space and how it is working. A detailed report of children and parents views will be displayed on our notice board. Please get in touch if you would like to receive this via email.
Snack is an ongoing issue where we are not able to provide the same snack as we were able to in the annex as a result of environmental health restrictions. In the meantime children will be provided with a yoghurt, banana/tangerine and raisins. Water and milk is available all day. If your child brings a clean bowl we are able to add cereal and milk however we advise the bowl has a lid as staff are unable to wash the children’s bowls and we are sure nobody wants spilt milk in the bottom of a school bag !
Spring Playscheme
Booking forms are available on request, please note some days may reach capacity and the sooner your booking form is received the best chances you have to guarantee your child’s place.
Staff Update
After the spring playscheme you may see some new faces, as our daily register is at 100 children we have increased the number of employed staff to allow for students to go on placements, staff holidays and absences.
Staff training is ongoing and the majority of the team have been attending a Makaton communication course. Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language. We intend to incorporate these signs into our daily practice.
Susan and I have also completed online training on supporting children with behaviour that challenges. This has proven to be very interesting and useful for updating our policy documents and supporting the children of the service.
Chelsea and Stewart have completed their SVQ Level 3 in Playwork. Well done to both of them.
